"JERUSALEM" Line

The décor for this tea set was inspired by two most revered Islamic sites, i.e.  The Dome of the Rock and Al-Aqsa Mosque located near each other on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem .

Mosque The Dome of the Rock erected in the 7th Century BC is one of the oldest monuments of Islamic Architecture preserved practically unaltered to our time. It was built by Byzantine craftsmen on the site of the Second Jewish (Solomon's) Temple where the Ark of the Covenant was held and which was destroyed during the Roman Siege of Jerusalem. Byzantians made the Dome in the shape characteristic of the monumental Jerusalem buildings. The Mosque is shaped as an octagon decorated with marble and azure tiles. The enormous golden dome crowning the Mosque is considered to be the symbol of Jerusalem . The walls of the Mosque are covered with magnificent, partly authentic original mosaic dating back to the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent. This building is not used as the place of worship today being treated as an architectural and religious monument. Inside it there is a shelf rock, from which Prophet Muhammad is believed to have ascended to the Heaven.

Mosque Al-Aqsa is the third holiest site in Islam after the al-Haram Mosque (Masjid al-Haram (Forbidden Mosque) in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina (Al-Masjid an-Nabawi). It was built by Caliph Abd al-Malik in the 8th century on the same site where according to the legend Prophet Muhammad himself led the prayer as an imam in the presence of all the prophets sent before him. The architecture of the Mosque had been influenced by basilica shrines and there are 7 naves in it oriented towards Mecca . It can house a congregation of up to 5000 for prayer.

The patterns used in the décor of the tea set repeat precisely the decorative elements of this region. To make the décor of the set still more impressive, gold is used whose combination with the ornate floral labyrinth offers this work special attraction.

This collection is produced in a limited number of copies (500 sets).
